Vahana and Jewels of the North
Vahana is a Middle Eastern Dancer and Performer in Northern California. She was a category winner at the 2006 Belly Dancer USA competition in Oregon and received the People’s Choice Award in two categories. In 2011, Vahana's dance troupe, Jewels of the North, won second place at the Jewel of the Sierra Bellydance Competition.
Vahana has performed professionally throughout California, Nevada, and Oregon for the past 10 years.
She has studied with many talented masters such as Princess Farhana, Jim Boz, Leyla Jouvanna, Karim Nagi, Aradia of Las Vegas, Ashtalea, Suzanna Del Vecchio, Fatima Al Wahed, Daleela Morad, Jamila Al Wahed, and Kristin Cunningham in Los Angeles.
She performed with troupe Jewels of the Dance in Los Angeles for 4 years before moving with her family to the Placerville area. Vahana is the founder, director, and
choreographer for the Placerville-based Egyptian-style belly dance troupe "Jewels of the North" and the little sister troupe, the "Jewelettes." Vahana performs regularly throughout the Sacramento and San Jose areas, so please check her events page frequently for dates and locations.
In June 2007, Vahana launched the premiere cultural event of the Gold Country area, The Casbah Lounge, An Evening of Middle Eastern Dance at
Annabelle's Chocolate Lounge in El Dorado. This event was the first of its kind for the area and was such a success it is now hosted four times a year with dancers from all over California performing to standing-room-only audiences. Every show is free with donations requested for local community members in need.
Vahana teaches Belly Dance and Zumba classes for both adults and children at Jammin' Dance and Fitness and is available for private instruction. Check her "Classes" page for current information.
Vahana is also an avid horse woman. She has loved and ridden Arabian horses in both Hunter/Jumper and Dressage, plus shown extensively on the Arabian circuit and California Dressage Society all her life and is the trainer, instructor, and owner of White Horse Dressage in Shingle Springs. She lives in the Placerville area with her husband, son, 3 Arabian mares, an Icelandic horse, 3 Egyptian Nubian goats, 4 cats, and a dog.
